Summer beanie

Summer beanie

When my daughter Raina grew out of the first hat I made her it was the middle of summer. Because I was (am?) obsessed with crochet, I had to make her a replacement straight away. But because it was so warm – well, warm by Dutch summer standards – I had to come up with a cool alternative.

So, using cotton yarn, I whipped this together using a pattern I made up as I went along (must start writing these down) and a butterfly I found on Pinterest.  Raina is about six months old in this photo, and it fits her perfectly.

So far it has also been one of the most requested items I make, so I’m busy making more!  Want one for the warmer weather?  Just send me a message or comment below.

May the force be with you

May the force be with you

This was a special request from a woman in my mothers’ group. Her husband is mad about Star Wars, so as a fun surprise, she asked me to make this hat as a tribute to everyone’s favourite green man, Yoda.

The design is a half double crochet hat with single crochet ear flaps and braids. The Yoda ears are two flaps I made by experimenting with shapes.

It all came together very well, I’m extremely happy with the result. I have the pattern ready to be turned into something legible, so watch this space!

Pinspiration #1

I am a massive fan of Pinterest.  The amount of time I spend there is ridiculous.  Pinterest is now to me what Facebook was a couple of years ago.  I will have a quick browse before I go to bed at night and am wondering what cool projects I can find first thing in the morning.

I especially love the global society we live in.  It means that first thing in the morning I’m being flooded with ideas Americans have been pinning while I’ve been sleeping, and when I get home from work I have the same guilty pleasure courtesy of the Australians.

Here I am going to share some of the coolest Pinterest crochet projects that I have found over the previous week or so.  Thanks to the new Pinterest look and feel, it’s easy to link to the source of the pins which is a wonderful addition to the site.  No more clicking through thirty pins to get to the origin!

My faves for this week:

Bitty Flower Hat

This is a hat that I’m biding my time to get stuck into. Aren’t the colours just gorgeous?

Granny Stripe Messenger Bag

Granny Stripe Messenger Bag, found on Craftsy. I’m wondering where I can pick up the extra bits and pieces for the handles and snap closure, so I can make something just like this.

Roses and Lace scarf

Roses and Lace scarf from Crochet World magazine. I just love the roses. Why aren’t there more hours in the day?

Crochet deer head

Crochet Deer Head from ManafkaMina on Etsy. These just make me laugh. I’d love one on my wall. I can just imagine my library with all my crochet trophy heads….

Ribbed newsboy hat

Ribbed Newsboy Hat by Posh Patterns on Craftsy. I’ve just bought this patern and am busy making a couple for a friend (I’ll link them when finished). It’s a wonderful pattern, highly recommended.

I’d love it if you took a moment to browse my pins and you’re more than welcome to follow me.  I’m always hunting for more inspiration, so I’ll definitely follow you.

Beautifully Stashed

Beautifully Stashed

Beautiful basket, made from Zpagetti t-shirt yarn. Whips up within an hour or so and looks fantastic, don’t you think?

I’m quite new to using chunky yarn, but am fast becoming a fan. I’m in the middle of making a cover for a particularly ugly footstool, but have run out of yarn! As if I need an excuse to buy more….

I found the pattern at Crochet in Colour (click the image for the pattern), where I find a lot of my favourite projects.

I’ve added this project to Hookin On Hump Day over at Moogly, which is one of the greatest crochet blogs around!

And so it begins

I have finally created the blog to show off all my projects and share my inspiration, I can’t wait to get started!

Here’s a taste of some of the projects I’ve been working on recently:
