The Big Reveal – Rainbow Ridge Blanket

We’re finally here, it’s REVEAL DAY!

I’ve been bursting to share this with you for weeks and weeks (in case my instagram posts didn’t give it away), this one is absolutely beautiful!

The colours, the texture, all of it. I love it.

Get the Yarn

There are five different Softfun colour packs to choose from including Pastel (which I have), Jewel, Rich, Rainbow and Cloud. There are a full list of stockists on the Scheepjes website, but you can also find the packs at your favourite LYS or online retailer including:
Wool Warehouse* (global)
Caro’s Atelier* (NL and Europe)
Black Sheep Wools* (UK)
Dot’s Yarn Den (US)
Belle Mae Yarns (AU)

You’ll need one colour pack in the colours you like best, plus 6 balls of Softfun in a complementary colourway. I chose 2622 Latte.

I’ve used the same yarn under technique to make the Rainbow Ridge blanket that I used in Reti the Koala Lovey from a few months ago, with a moss (linen) stitch double border.

The softfun colour pack coupled with a few 50g balls of softfun make the perfect baby/cot sized blanket. The cotton blend makes it great for warmer months, and the weight of the blanket thanks to the ridge texture means that it’s also snuggly. The durability of the acrylic means that you can wash and wash and wash this one and it will keep looking beautiful.

Of course the dog couldn’t be left out, she inserted herself into most of the photos!

Progress Update – Aquarel Crochet Project

I’ve been a busy little bee over the last couple of weeks since I last posted. I’ve made great progress on my latest Scheepjes project, made with Softfun Aquarel. It’s going to be a blanket, and so far it’s looking amazing!

That is a shot I took before I went on holiday two weeks ago, and the blanket has since travelled around Scandinavia and increased dramatically in size!

It’s actually grown even more since I took these pics!

The chevron is so fun to do, it’s lovely and soothing creating the zig zags and feeling the yarn come to life in all it’s squishy glory.

It won’t be finished in the next week, but I’ll be sure to post more progress shots as I go – make sure you check out my Instagram feed to keep updated. As soon as I’m finished I’ll let you know exactly how much of each colour you’ll need to make this (so far it’s looking like about 6 balls of each colour except the purple, which will likely be 8).

New Scheepjes Yarn, New Crochet Plan

Today I’m kicking off a new Scheepjes crochet project, and I can’t wait to share it!

It’s another Scheepjes Softfun Aquarel* project, do you recognise the colours?

That’s right – they’re the same as the colours I used for my Textured Chevron Cushion earlier this year.

That can only mean one thing: companion project!

I’m still just as in love with the colours of this yarn as I was when it was first released. I also just love working with the yarn. It’s lovely and soft and has amazing stitch definition. Plus it’s squishy and bouncy; perfect for what I’m making.

So, what am I making? Well, I’ll leave you to speculate for a while….

Project Planning – New Yarn

I’m absolutely crazy about crochet lately. I have been working like crazy, there are ideas swirling around and around and I’m desperately trying to pin them all down so they don’t fly off into someone else’s conscience.

Right now I want to share with you the next project on the list, it’s using the lovely new Scheepjes Aquarel. Well, Scheepjes have launched so many new yarns in the last year, it’s hard to remember what’s new and what’s new!

You might have seen me post a pic on Instagram a while ago showing off the gorgeous colours? Here’s what they all look like together, aren’t they amazing?

The Scheepjes Softfun Aquarel is a cotton acrylic blend (40/60%) and is the same composition as the regular Softfun and the hugely popular Softfun Denim. Plus, the colours across all three ranges are designed to work together, so you can easily combine any of the colours to work together.

The yarn calls for a 4mm hook and for your 50g you get 140 metres.

It’s a lovely stretchy yarn to work with, I really enjoy it. The stitch definition is great, and the watercolour effect is beautiful when worked up.

Oh, and let’s not forget that now famous Easy Start tab. Isn’t it just the best?

Next week I’ll show you some examples of what I have in store for you! This theme is going to span a few months, as this won’t be the only project I share with you, so stay tuned!

Project Pile: Scalloped Neckline Lace Dress

A couple of weeks ago I decided that I wanted to crochet a dress for my daughter. I haven’t made a lot of clothing, but the few pieces I have made are wonderful. They’re so much fun, and give such a feeling of accomplishment. So when I came across this pattern, I knew it was the right one.

I especially loved the texture and the romantic neckline, but had to find the perfect yarn.

Eventually I settled on using Scheepjes Softfun, a yarn that I’ve heard so much about, but hadn’t had the opportunity to use yet.

But before I could begin, I had to check a few projects off the list. I had to finish a scarf, a couple of amigurumi projects, and finalise the Bucketful of Sunshine pattern, but once they were all out the way, it was all systems go!

I just love the neckline on this pattern, it’s just so beautiful.

The project was surprisingly easy. It took me a few swatches to get the gauge right, as I crochet much tighter than the average designer, it seems. In the end I had to upsize to a 4.5mm hook (the pattern calls for a 3.5mm hook) which seems to be about the norm for me now.

Here is the end result. I’m so happy with the outfit, my daughter looks so cute!

Project pile: Summer Dress

I always tend to have at least three projects on the go. Right now I’m finishing up a couple of Elephant Snuggles, plus an exciting design that is just about ready to share with you, along with the Convergence top, another Spring Shawl, and a vintage Dutch pattern that I’m translating and altering!

Not one to just let that be enough, now I’ve added this one to the list:

And the yarn I’m going to use is the absolutely gorgeous Softfun yarn from Scheepjeswol.
