Katran Stool Cover – a Free Crochet Pattern

Are you ready to make your Katran stool cover?

Katran crochet stool cover by Nerissa Muijs in Scheepjes Secret Garden http://shrsl.com/jj6p

Why Katran?  Well, katran is a Hindi word which explains the beautiful offcut pieces of fabric which are the by product of weaving mills.  Often farmers will collect these waste fabrics, spin it into heavy yarns, and make furniture in their off-season.  These stunning pieces inspired me to use Scheepjes Secret Garden to bring this stool to life.

The materials for this project are available from your favourite Scheepjes stockist in the Benelux, in North America you can order the yarn from Love Knitting or Knotty House (in Canada) or if you’re in the UK or anywhere else in the world Wool Warehouse is the place to go.

For your 28cm diameter stool, you should ask your favourite retailer.  Failing that, you’ll be able to find them in discount home stores all over the place, often with a very ugly print that is calling out to be covered with something beautiful!

  1. Is there a mis print on row 6?
The way it reads at the moment it would mean an increase of 30 sets in that row whereas it should only be 8 increased by 8 sets.

    • I have now figured out what was missing from row 6.
      It should read hdc31 x3, *hdc3linc, hdc31x 4* x 7, hdc3linc, hdc31 – 48 sets.
There is also a misprint on row 38, it should have 114 sets remaining, not 144.

  2. These katran stool cover pieces are really gorgeous! I can’t believe that it’s actually made of fabric produced by weaving mills. As a stool collector, it’s been my habit to put interesting and fun covers for my stool. Right now, I am searching for nice designs and ideas that I can use when I go shopping for stool covers. These katran covers already caught my attention. Hopefully, I can find a place where they offer some more different and interesting stool covers.
