Perhaps I should call it Monday Wine Time..?
While I was going through my blogroll this morning (one of my favourite Monday morning tasks), Molly from The Move to America popped up with a Monday Coffee Morning post; the beginning of a new series where she talks about her plans for the week and what she hopes to achieve.
I thought to myself, what a great idea! Then promptly went on and did something else (like work). But the idea kept coming back into my head. I absolutely love blogging; I find the relationships are so rewarding. I have made so many fabulous friends through my expat blog Adventures in Integration over the last three years and I hope that MissNeriss does the same for me over time.
So, here’s what I’m planning to do this week:
Work. Gah. Busy. New release coming up fast that needs to be tested. I still can’t quite believe I’m working as a software tester. In my past life I’ve been a shed hand, a tour guide, an events manager, a PA, but never in my wildest imagination did I think that I’d work in IT, let alone as a tester. My job will be changing in the coming months; something I’m very excited about. I’ll be moving into a writing and editing and consultation position within the company. I can’t wait!
Family. For the first time ever, My husband and I will be going away for the weekend without our daughter. I know I should be nervous and anxious and feel guilty for abandoning her, but I don’t! Instead I’m ridiculously excited. I get to pretend I’m not a mum for a couple of days, and the added bonuses are that we’re going to France, and we’re going to a wedding of one of my dearest friends.
Out and about. We’re going to Toomler in Amsterdam this week to catch some live Aussie comedy which is always great fun. One year at a gig I went to I managed to chat to Adam Hills as part of his show. Talk about star-struck!
Crochet. I’m so busy!! I can’t believe it. I’ve just finished a lovely bag and bolero for a friend of mine and I’m working through a stack of Yodas. Hopefully I’ll get through them all this week, then it’s on to a giant bear which I’m gagging to get my hook into.

When a friend of mine contacted me about making a hat for a colleague’s soon to be born baby, but it had to be Irish, I immediately thought of a leprechaun. I mean, who wouldn’t, right? This friend of mine loved the idea, so I went hunting for patterns.
And hunting… And hunting.
I found a few, but nothing was quite what I had envisaged. So, I decided: “Time to design my own!” And here is the result:
I’m part way through writing a pattern, then I have to test it (testing should be a cinch as that’s what I’m doing for a living at the moment – software testing), and finally publish it.
Off topic, I spend the majority of my time hanging out on my Facebook page, and on Instagram. There’s something about Instagram that I can’t get enough of. Except the photos of feet. I’m not a fan of all these photos of feet. But, better than the zexy selfies I guess…
Anyway, come join me. I’d love to get to know you better.
My mother in law pointed out to me last week that she wants to recommend my work to a friend, but there is no where here on my site to see my projects all in one place. Cue much forehead slapping and head shaking. How could I miss something so obvious?!
So, here it is. A gallery containing quite a few of the projects I have completed over the last few months. There are many, many more, but I never seem to remember to photograph them and they’ve moved into their new homes before I realise.

Yoda inspired hat for babies.
Beginner
For this pattern I use American terms. If you decide to use a different weigh yarn, no problem. You’ll just have to add or remove one or two increase rows and perhaps some length.
This pattern is written in the round. I’m not a fan of joining and chaining and a visible seam, but you can work that way if you prefer.
I’ve made three sizes; newborn, 6-12 months, and 12 months – 2 years. I do have an adult version too, but will add that separately, later.
By all means, please feel free to sell items that you make from this pattern, but please do not sell this pattern or make changes and redistribute it claiming it as your own. I would be forever grateful if you credit Miss Neriss when using this pattern – it’s important to all support one another.

When my good friend Becky started to push me (and I mean really push!) to start this venture, I knew that I would need some outstanding images to accompany the work. But, I had no idea what I wanted or even how I saw myself. All I knew was that all the best crochet people have excellent branding and if I wanted to even contemplate joining their ranks, I would need some too.
Enter the Amsterdam Small Business Network an Joanne Lew-Vriethoff. Via the network I saw Joanne’s work and was immediately in love with what she does. I could feel in my bones that she was the designer for me.
I approached Joanne and she came back with an excellent quote package to create a banner for my Facebook page and for this site, so I jumped at the chance.
I supplied a few images of myself and of my daughter, along with a vague, high level idea of what I had in mind. I had seen this image of my friend Tammy and thought to myself: that image sums me up too! I have so many things on the go at once, I should illustrate that.
What Joanne created for me absolutely blew my mind. I’ll be perfectly honest; from my description (or lack thereof), I wasn’t sure she had enough to go on to make something that I could connect with, but it was like she crawled inside my head and pulled all the best bits out and put them on paper!
Once the banner was created I was so happy that I knew I couldn’t stop there. Next was a postcard and then, business cards! I’m so over the moon with the results, now I have to just sit down and get them all printed. Can’t wait to have them in my hot little hands! I’m now also thinking about going down the Etsy route, so there will be even more work to do in that case.
